A Class 8 corrosive with subsidiary 5.1 hazard (UN 2031, PG II; above 70% UN 2032, PG I); strongly corrosive and oxidizing — severe burns/eye damage, toxic vapour, violent reaction with reducing agents, organic matter and metal powders. Used in fertiliser and nitrate manufacture, metal pickling and etching, precious-metal refining, nitration, electroplating and as digestion acid.
